The agricultural sector is a key sector in the economy, playing an important role in employment. According to the 2017 National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas), 29.68% of the workforce is employed in agriculture. Beyond being a leading sector for job creation, agriculture also contributes significantly to Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In 2017, the agriculture sector contributed 1,785,880.7 billion rupiah, or 13.14% of Indonesia's total GDP. Therefore, having comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date agricultural data is essential for government and stakeholders in planning and formulating policies.
To provide comprehensive agricultural data, the Agriculture Census is conducted every ten years. However, due to the rapid changes in agricultural practices influenced by technology, seasonal shifts, and prices, there is a need for a more frequent survey, which is why the Inter-Census Agricultural Survey (SUTAS) is conducted.
SUTAS is carried out midway between Agriculture Censuses. The 2018 SUTAS is the first survey of its kind conducted by BPS. The results of SUTAS 2018 will help capture the changes in agricultural activities between 2013 and 2018. The field data collection for SUTAS 2018 took place in May and June 2018. In Barito Selatan Regency, 100 selected census blocks were surveyed by 36 field enumerators.
